VGA to PC to TV Video Converters are becoming popular because of our desire to get our computer output to our nice video screens for parties and watching picture collections, movies and whatever suits our fancy. I have been looking at the component boxes you can purchase that allow you to have PC to TV connections and be able to switch between your different video outputs from various consoles, computers and input boxes from cable companies, all housed in one nice tight package.

Technology has been a welcome companion to the video and TV manufacturing companies that abound in many countries. There is disjointedness because of this evolution when it comes to output from each device in order to talk to the next device. You have each manufacturer being able to decide what type of output they want to incorporate into their design. Some companies want proprietary outputs, so everyone has to buy their version of cables to communicate with the plethora of devices already on the market. Kind of like how the power supplies got all out of whack with their voltages and diameter sizes for their connections and changed the way we have to buy them. Universal units always find their way into the market and fill the voids left by these companies.

These output details are something we as consumers cannot control, and if we want a manufacturer’s product, we have to go and get the extra cables that do the job we want. Within these constraints, there are numerous companies that have sprung up to help with this dilemma. These companies make converter boxes and input panel boxes to help us formulate a successful connection path between all of these devices. I am not going into brands, but I must say that these companies have components that range from very small fit in the hand type units with a couple of interfacing inputs and outputs to nineteen inch rack mount units 3-5U’s high with banks of inputs and outputs.

I think we are getting to this point and unless everything goes infra-red or wireless to some degree, we are going to have continue to have cables lying around everywhere from one device leading to the next. Being able to have all of your cables become centralized by hooking them up to a panel or converter can help with the organization of the wires, and in some cases when folks get creative, they can hide the wires to an extent. I wonder how it will be when we get rid of wires completely.

There are four major types of PC to TV cables that are widely used in the US. Some have qualities that are far superior then others in terms of how they are made and the quality of signals that are sent and received. VGA, DVI, HDMI and S-Video are the most widely used.

The most affordable, easiest mounting and most familiar way you can connect your PC to the TV is by using the S-Video to three cable RCA connectors. S-Video has two variations, the seven pin and the four pin outputs on the PC, so make sure you discern the variation you need to purchase for. You will also need a cable for the stereo output, which coming from the laptop will be a singular plug type stereo. Usually you can find a cable that has the option for stereo that is incorporated with the main video cable.

Another popular version that maintains the S-Video output from the laptop is the four pin S-Video and Stereo Audio Input combination for the TV. You will always need to check whether you have the four or seven pin output S-Video in your laptop, and when it comes to your TV, you will see two inputs for stereo, usually one red and one white rimmed input ports along with the four pin S-Video for the TV.

For older laptops and desktop units, you will be dealing with the VGA monitor output on the PC and probably going to the RCA input on TV or the S-Video and Stereo Audio on TV for your watching connection, though there are some HDMI and DVI as well and I am sure there will be more in the future as we move into 3D-TV.

With the advent of HDTV, you now have component video input on HDTV which has three inputs, but the output from RCA will not work because they are not wired the same and do not contain the same information. The Component Video has the video signal on three separate lines; two carry the color transmission usually colored blue and red, and the third usually colored green, for the sync and brightness.

With HDTV you have other connector types that are called the DVI input and HDMI input on the monitor or HDTV. You will find these are being featured on many new computer video cards as well. As always, make sure your output from your laptop is either the seven or four pin S-Video connection.

One last input style on the newer televisions is the HDMI input on your HDTV. Very small form factor and compact size about the size of a USB, this connector is very widely used.

For European SCART A/V input on TV there is a seven pin and a four pin version.

My son likes to watch his favorite shows using the computer. He gets access from web sites that provide online content in flash or mpg format. He is always having his girlfriend over and the two of them sometimes go into his room and watch a movie from one of the free TV on PC stations on his computer. He likes the idea of getting the latest movies and shows to watch.

There is really nothing like free TV on your PC. The comedy specials are his favorite, he comes out of his room chanting the chorus of the last thing he just watched acting bold and mimicking what he just saw on the screen. He has gotten very good at reciting the lines from the movies and has all of the expressions and antics you would expect from the actor are acted out in front of us. I really enjoyed that age he is at when I was a kid.

The younger PC users are very adapt at finding the information they are looking for and getting the entertainment or free satellite TV on PC they are after, whether it would be movies or music or programs. They seem to have the knack of being able to search and retrieve these components for their delight, quickly and easily. It used to be my job to hunt and search for days, but now my son is better and faster than I am and I am delighted and amazed when he shows up with a couple of CD’s full of episodes I like to watch and he hands them over and says here you go pops.

One of the things you have to watch out for when finding these free watch satellite TV on PC stations are the rogue or malicious web sites. I have had first hand experience getting infected from a virus by pressing the download now button on the screen. Now I always look at the bottom bar to make sure when I point to a link, I know where it is going and what it is going to show me next. I have only had this happen once, but once is enough when it takes three to five days to get your computer back in running order, especially when you use your computer for business. I would suggest using the extra computer if you have one, for doing these types of exploratory searching for web sites until you are very familiar with the actual web sites you are dealing with.

Watching TV used to be a family thing to do on a Sunday night. Now, we are watching TV in our cars, on our phones and even on our computers. You can imagine what has happened in the television business world, a whole other set of stores that are there to accommodate you getting TV on your PC, car and phone. There are lots of web sites that will give you TV on pc; you just have to search for them and then approach them cautiously inspecting every click.

As a matter of fact there are quite a few companies on the Internet that bring TV on your PC. Just what are the differences you can expect and how do you know you are getting a good deal? Are all PCTV providing companies the same?

Almost all computer generated television comes from large data feeds and are piped through large trunks of fiber optic channels from different parts of the world. These television feeds are available to the major network operators to dole out as they see fit through various programs and similar groupings of channels to view as packages to the end customer, you and I.

How do you know you are getting a good deal? There is really no way of telling except to write to the operator you want to send your money to and ask them how they compare to the next software site. I am sure you know what will be the outcome of that attempt would be, just another sales pitch.

Now most of the television channels being offered through the makers of the PCTV viewing software packages can be easily found on the net and they do not have to be paid for. What you are paying your money for as far as I can tell is the organization and presentation of the Television channels you have available to watch and that is about it.

This means the software provider is selling you a list of web sites that have movies and television programming already in their web pages. I would imagine it would sync with the software vendors list of web pages they search to keep the data fresh. I have also seen them as just being pointers to a web page where the station has its hosting.

If you break down the parts about how much searching you would have to do to find all of these channels and then organize them, with all the hours you would invest in making sure they are legitimate and they are not spam sites or rogue virus sites, and you value your time as money then you might be persuaded to fork over your hard earned cash for software products like these.

If you are adventurous you will be able to quickly find at least three to five web sites where you will be able to watch your favorite shows without having to pay the money, as a mater of fact, I have found a couple of great sites to get you started.

There are lots of web sites you can click into to get free TV on your PC. Two web sites that I like and recommend that I use often and have been around for a long time are ovguide.com and global-itv.com. They have a very nice layout for each television category and are organized nicely making the web site very easy to browse through. I am sure by looking through the search engines you will be able to find many more possibilities for these types of web sites. I have offered this here as a starting point for your journey through what has become a very convoluted and distorted capability available to you and your computer internet connection.

Buying a piece of software to run in your PC is not the only option you have available to you. There are manufacturing companies who have created a few series of products that are hardware oriented and you can purchase a dongle that fits into your USB port that will set you up with PCTV and is wireless ready. This company also makes a PC computer to TV connection that will enable you to watch it all on your TV instead of computer.

Which ever way you want to watch your television, whether it would be by computer, phone, car or just lounging around the house clicking on the remote, you can be sure there are plenty of options you have to get your favorite show and episode to watch right now.
